PennEast Pipeline Announces Recipients of Community Connector Grant Program

(WYOMISSING, Pa.) – The PennEast Pipeline Company, LLC, recently announced awards of $70,000 through its Community Connector Grant Program, bringing the program’s investment in Pennsylvania and New Jersey communities to $120,000 to date.

A farm-to-table project, new personal protective equipment for fire companies and improvements to an evacuation shelter are among the projects supported through the second round of grants. The following not-for-profit organizations have been selected to receive the grants: Carbon Career and Technical Institute; Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company; Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company #1; Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation; Laflin Volunteer Fire Department; Lake Harmony Rescue Squad; Lehigh & Lausanne Rural Volunteer Fire Company; Lehighton Ambulance Association; Milford Fire Company; New Hope Eagle Fire Company; The Pennsylvania State University Office of Sponsored Programs; Plains Township Fire Department; Sergeantsville Volunteer Fire Company; and Williams Township Fire Company #1.

“It is a priority for PennEast to support initiatives where we live and work,” said Alisa Harris, who oversees government and community affairs for PennEast. “We have received a positive response to the Community Connector Grant Program and look forward to selecting another round of grant recipients.”

“Southeastern Volunteer Fire Company was a recipient of the Community Connector Grant during the first quarter,” said Dave Edge, president of the Southeastern Volunteer Fire Company.  ‘We sincerely appreciate the grant award from PennEast in support of our ongoing mission to serve our community when emergencies arise.”

Grants of $5,000 are awarded to not-for-profit organizations on the basis of need, fulfillment of program guidelines and proximity to the proposed PennEast Pipeline in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  The Community Connector Grant Program is designed to:

  • Support first responders and emergency management;
  • Improve community safety;
  • Conserve important local habitat;
  • Enhance open space, recreational areas and wildlife habitat;
  • Preserve community culture and heritage; and
  • Support environmental and/or energy education programs.

The PennEast Pipeline is an approximately 114-mile, 36-inch natural gas pipeline that will deliver approximately 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day.  This pipeline will originate in Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania and end at Transco’s pipeline interconnection near Pennington in Mercer County, New Jersey.  AGL Resources; NJR Pipeline Company; PSEG Power LLC; South Jersey Industries; Spectra Energy Partners and UGI Energy Services form the PennEast Pipeline Company.  UGI Energy Services serves as the project manager and operator of the pipeline.
