PJM Serves 20 Percent of U.S. Population
Below is statement by Pat Kornick, spokesperson for PennEast Pipeline Company, following PJM’s presentation to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on winter reliability.
On October 20, 2016, the world’s largest wholesale electricity market operator delivered to FERC a presentation underscoring the need for additional natural gas transmission — specifically citing PennEast Pipeline as an example of a project that will bring additional grid reliability and supply options.
PJM noted in its presentation that the PennEast Pipeline ‘would expand capacity and supply options and improve grid reliability.’
“PJM’s comments to FERC are imperative, because PJM represents more than 61 million people, including those in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, who expect reliable, affordable electric power when they need it,” said Pat Kornick, PennEast spokesperson. “The PennEast Pipeline’s proximity to North America’s largest and most affordable supply of natural gas, and the continued shift to clean-burning natural gas for electricity, is a game-changer for the environment, economy and quality of life.
“Like PJM, every major business and labor organization across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including dozens of federal and state officials, understand this project is a critical component of powering our environmental and economic future,” added Kornick.
According to independent economic experts, the region would have saved $893 million in the 2013-2014 winter had PennEast been in service, including $530 million in electric customer savings.
