This week began with several PennEast partner companies participating in the second annual Utility Job and Career Fair at Mercer County Community College.
In natural gas use news, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently released their Manufacturing Energy Consumption Survey (MECS) that found natural gas consumption by American manufacturers went up 2 percent between 2010 and 2014. Related, PennEast has added the National Economic Council’s October report, Revitalizing American Manufacturing: The Obama Administration’s Progress in Establishing a Foundation for Manufacturing Leadership, to our website (here). The report finds, “U.S.-based manufacturers currently enjoy a competitive advantage from affordable natural gas… The surge in American natural gas production has lowered energy costs for manufacturers and driven job growth, with U.S. natural gas costs one-half that of Europe and one-third that of Asia.”

Dozens of job seekers turned out in South Jersey Monday to get plugged in about the future of energy. The Action Cam was at the second annual Utility Job and Career Fair at Mercer County Community College.
EIA: Natural gas consumption in manufacturing increased 2% between 2010 and 2014
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has released preliminary estimates showing that “total U.S. manufacturing energy consumption increased about 3.7% between 2010 and 2014.”

Since early 2010, U.S. manufacturing has added over 800,000 direct jobs, and companies from around the world again see the United States as the best place for new investment in the most leading-edge manufacturing across industries.
Renewables made up half of net electricity capacity added last year (The Guardian)
Green energy accounted for more than half of net electricity generation capacity added around the world last year for the first time, leading energy experts have found. The International Energy Agency (IEA) said the milestone was evidence of a rapid transformation in energy taking place, and predicted capacity from renewable sources will grow faster than oil, gas, coal or nuclear power in the next five years.
Increasing Prosperity, Resource Stewardship, and National Security (Center for New American Security)
On January 20, 2017, a new U.S. president will take the oath of office. He or she will assume responsibility for assuring the safe, reliable, and affordable provision of energy for the country, a critical component of the economic health and security of the nation. This task will involve addressing a number of grave deficiencies in current energy policy and prioritizing several urgent energy initiatives.
PA: Westmoreland County Bus Fleet Set for Fuel Conversion (Mass Transit)
Westmoreland County Transit Authority will begin converting its bus fleet next year to compressed natural gas as part of a statewide project. Authority board members this week unanimously approved a contract with PennDOT to allow for the installation of natural gas pumps by summer at the agency’s Hempfield maintenance facility.
