Volunteers from PennEast Pipeline Company today distributed lunch to those in need at Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK), followed by the presentation of a $2,500 donation to support TASK’s on-going services and operations.

The contribution was provided through PennEast’s Community Investment Program, which was established in 2014. The PennEast Community Investment Program has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to non-profit and charitable organizations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

“Because communities are so reliant on nonprofit organizations that serve those in need, supporting community organizations that provide critical safety net services is important to PennEast,” said Pam Witmer of PennEast Pipeline Company. “We are excited to get on the ground and meet with those creating this positive community impact.”

Founded in 1982, TASK provides complimentary meals and services, encouraging self-sufficiency and the improvement of the quality of life for its consumers. Today, with the assistance of volunteers, TASK staff serves more than 4,800 meals each week across its 13 Trenton locations.

“TASK relies heavily on contributions in the forms of volunteering time and financial donations,” said Trenton Area Soup Kitchen Executive Director Joyce Campbell. “We appreciate PennEast’s support in partnering with us to serve lunch to the patrons of Trenton today.”

PennEast’s contribution provided the soup kitchen the equivalent of one day’s worth of meals and a week of Adult Education, which provides one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy; math; high school equivalency test preparation; and computer skills.
