Northampton County Fire School and Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation Receive $5,000 Grants
(Wyomissing, Pa.) – PennEast Pipeline Company presented two community organizations, the Northampton County Fire School and Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation (EP-ACT), with $5,000 grant checks this week in support of projects that will benefit communities across eastern Pennsylvania. The grants were distributed through PennEast’s Community Investment Program, which has invested more than $600,000 in local, non-profit organizations making a difference in their communities.
“PennEast is thrilled to have the opportunity to support organizations like the Northampton County Fire School and the Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Energy (EP-ACT), who are focused on building safer, cleaner and healthier communities across Pennsylvania,” said Pam Witmer of PennEast Pipeline Company. “PennEast has made it a priority to help the local organizations along our project footprint. To date, we have invested more than $600,000 in non-profit organizations, and we look forward to working with first responders of the Northampton County Fire School and the EP-ACT to promote clean energy education.”
Established in 1964, the Northampton County Fire School provides fire and rescue training at no cost to all Northampton County emergency responders. The Northampton County Fire School will utilize the $5,000 Community Connector Grant for the site improvements to install two propane simulators that will enable the school to enhance its hazardous materials training for emergency responders across Northampton County.
“Thanks to PennEast’s investment in the Northampton County Fire School’s hazardous materials training initiative, emergency responders across our county will be better prepared when confronting dangerous situations, ultimately creating a safer environment for families across our communities,” said Rick Weaver, Director of Northampton County Fire School.
Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation (EP-ACT), part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program, aims to reduce petroleum use in the transportation sector by working in close coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to advance the use of alternative fuels, vehicles and technologies. PennEast’s $5,000 award will promote EP-ACT’s clean energy initiative by funding future clean energy education workshops in Luzerne, Carbon, Northampton and Bucks counties. Each workshop will promote the use of natural gas in vehicles and feature a panel of clean energy experts.
“Natural gas is a reliable, abundant, cost-effective and clean-burning energy source that strengthens our nation’s energy independence,” said Tony Bandiero, Executive Director of EP-ACT. “PennEast’s grant will allow for us to effectively communicate that message across eastern Pennsylvania. We look forward to educating the public, municipalities, and private fleets on the advantages of using natural gas as a vehicle fuel to reduce carbon emissions, stimulate the local economy and create a sustainable energy future.”
Established in 2014, the PennEast Community Investment Program has invested more than $600,000 in local organizations across New Jersey and Pennsylvania to support communities along PennEast’s proposed pipeline route.
