Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Receives $10,000 Grant
(Wyomissing, Pa.) – PennEast Pipeline Company presented the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania with a $10,000 grant this week as part of the PennEast Powering STEM Education Initiative. To date, the PennEast Powering STEM Education Initiative has invested more than $170,000 to more than a dozen schools and nonprofit organizations across New Jersey and Pennsylvania to enhance access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational opportunities.
“PennEast is honored to support the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania and their Girls GO STEM program, which inspires young women across Pennsylvania to pursue a career in the STEM fields,” said Pam Witmer of PennEast Pipeline Company. “The key to creating a 21st century workforce is to increase access to STEM opportunities, and that is why we are partnering with the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania to give more young women the opportunity to experience hands-on STEM programming.”
Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA), which is composed of 17,000 girls across 30 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, understands the importance of STEM education in the 21st century. Through their Girls Go STEM program, GSHPA has expanded classroom learning by providing hands-on STEM programs to girls of all socio-economic backgrounds and learning abilities. PennEast’s Powering STEM grant will help support GSHPA’s Girls Go STEM programming, funding three STEM Expos throughout 2018, as well as a mobile STEM laboratory and other onsite programs that will serve girls across Luzerne and Carbon counties.
“Thanks to the PennEast Powering STEM grant, the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania will expand our successful Girls Go STEM program to young women throughout northeast Pennsylvania,” said Ellen M. Kyzer, President & CEO of GSHPA. “Girls GO STEM gives girls access to hands-on learning activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This program will not only help meet critical workforce demands, but it will create the next generation of female leaders in the STEM fields.”
Through the PennEast Powering STEM Education Initiative and Community Connector Grant Program, PennEast has provided more than $770,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations, first responders and STEM programs.
