PennEast Announces Next Community Connector Grant Recipients

Program Has Now Provided More Than $400,000 to Local Organizations

(Wyomissing, Pa.) – PennEast Pipeline Company is pleased to announce it has provided Community Connector Grants to its next round of program recipients. PennEast’s Community Connector Grant Program has now invested $408,000 in the communities along the Pipeline’s route.

Safety remains PennEast’s highest priority. The latest recipients focus on first responders, but also include other important community-focused organizations.

“Equally essential to investing in the region’s energy infrastructure is investing in the women, men and local organizations whose services are often taken for granted,” said Peter Terranova, chair of the PennEast board of managers. “After two years of Project planning and stakeholder meetings, we have had the privilege to get to know communities along the PennEast route, and we’re pleased to continue to offer our support to so many important groups through our Community Connector Grant Program.”

In an effort to better protect and serve Kingstown Township residents, the township applied and received a recent grant for surveillance cameras for outside of the police department.

“We’re pleased to have been awarded a PennEast Community Connector Grant,” said Kathy Sebastian, manager for Kingston Township in Luzerne County. “Thanks to PennEast’s support, Kingston Police Department will better serve the community and increase public safety by introducing new surveillance cameras to the Kingstown Township Police Department.”

Thornhurst Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company in Lackawanna County, is also amongst the latest round of recipients. They are a mutual aid for a number of fire departments along the Pipeline route. They’ll be using their grant to support their dive rescue team.

“We’re grateful for PennEast Pipeline Company’s support,” said Daniel Kasulaitis of Thornhurst Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. “Thanks to this PennEast grant and their support for first responders, we’ll be able to provide additional training and new equipment to our volunteer dive team that serves northeast Pennsylvania.”

Grant recipient Northmoreland Township Volunteer Fire Company, in Wyoming County, will be using their grant for a new Thermal Imager. “A working Thermal Imager is a vital tool for search and rescue of trapped occupants. And thanks to PennEast, we’ll be able to replace our old Imager, which is out of service and in disrepair,” said Charles Story, fire company president. “With our PennEast grant, we’ll have a new time-saving device that makes our primary searches much more thorough, quicker and result in higher chances of saving lives.”

“PennEast’s Community Connector Grant Program, alongside its volunteer efforts and sponsorships, are examples of our dedication to supporting local communities within and surrounding the proposed Pipeline’s route. As the Project advances to provide a more secure energy future for the region, PennEast will continue to build and strengthen local relationships,” said Terranova.
